Helena Naidoo
Psychotherapist
Helena’s work primarily draws on the theory and practice of Formative Psychology, a somatic-emotional approach to problem-solving which is experientially based and focuses on how inherited and learned patterns of behaviour influence and shape who we are. She believes one of the most empowering principles of psychotherapy is to support an individual’s autonomy, teaching them how to look to themselves for the answers to their own questions.
Helena has a degree in Geography and African and Asian Studies and has worked as a further education and university lecturer, social policy researcher and community environmentalist and has been a psychotherapist since 2004. She is a member of the Black, African and Asian Therapists Network and is passionate about therapy being empathic to people of colour. Having been a Spectrum Therapy practitioner for some years, Helena moved to the Spectrum Studio Highgate when it opened in 2021.
Like many members of the Spectrum professional community, Helena was inspired to join the Spectrum Psychotherapy Training as a result of working as a client and directly experiencing the impact of humanistic psychology, its way of dealing with past trauma in the present, its wholistic, multi-faceted and many-layered perspective on the life of the individual and, most importantly, helping people to help themselves by learning new skills. Helena works with individuals and couples and has worked with dreams for over twenty years.
